A Derrick Rose Retirement Could Save Adidas $80 Million?!?!

The rollercoaster ride that has been Derrick Rose's career has apparently hit another low point as the former MVP has stepped away from the Cleveland Cavaliers this week to "re-evaluate his future in the NBA." While Rose hasn't commented on his absence, sources have indicated that the mental aspect of his injury-plagued career is catching up to him. Rose tore his left ACL during the 2012 playoffs, right meniscus in 2013 and has steadily missed games due to injury since. Should Rose decide to retire from basketball, it would not only mark the end of his playing career, but likely the end of his partnership with Adidas. ESPN's Nick DePaula reports that the brand is "protected" in its deal with Rose, which still has 7 seasons worth a potential $80 million remaining on the 13-year extension signed in 2012. If the retirement paperwork is filed, Adidas would not continue to pay Rose.
