New Store Alert: Durant Sessions Eyewear Shop in Vancouver*~

Durant Sessions is the newest addition to Vancouver’s eminent shopping district of Gastown. Shoppers are welcomed to the space by a long central table showcasing goods from the likes of the newly revived EYEVAN 7285 from Japan, limited edition and luxury frames from Ohio-based anni shades, iconic eyewear from California-based Oliver Peoples and more. The shop is further adorned with floor-to-ceiling windows and old-world touches like exposed beams as well as an antique safe-door, left wide open to emphasize the shop’s open-concept aesthetic. The store’s name pays homage to a series of music recordings in LA between Durant Sessions founder Eric Dickstein and a mentor from the optical industry.

It's no secret that sneaker brands strive to tell stories with their shoes. Look at any given press release for a new colorway or design and you will undoubtedly find a detailed back-story that informs the product. Travis Nanchy, a senior merchandise manager at adidas Basketball, speaks on that approach in this latest video clip from the University of Oregon Sports Product Management program. Nanchy describes how brands like adidas realize that these sort of stories help to differentiate products that can appear homogenous to the consumer.

LeBron James is heading back to the NBA Finals, which he hopes will yield a different result from the last one he played in. His partners at Upper Deck are selling every pair of game-worn Nike LeBron shoes worn by James in last year's Finals. The set includes the Nike Zoom Soldier 7 in Grey/Black-Gold, 'Yeezy,' Red/White and Black/Gold colorways, along with the 'Championship Pack' LeBron 10 Elite. Each pair is dual-signed by James, dated and authenticated. The kicker? To own this set, one will have to fork over $125,000 USD.

Release Reminder: Air Jordan 13 Low "Bred"*~

The Air Jordan 13 Low "Bred" is the next up sneaker in a long line of exciting Low models to come from Jordan Brand this year. The sneaker will release on Saturday, June 13th, and will be available on, Nike's official online shop. Like most other weekend releases, this Jordan 13 Low will release at 10 a.m. EDT/7 a.m. PDT. Nikestore should tweet out a link ten minutes beforehand that leads to the product page, featuring a clock counting down to when the shoes go live.

Jimmy Butler Dropped adidas and Took a 75% Pay Cut to Wear Jordans This Season*~

Alongside recent endorsement deals with Mountain Dew and True Religion, Butler was also supposed to represent Chicago basketball wearing three stripes on his feet, not unlike core Bulls players Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. It seems that Butler has again challenged expectations though, dropping adidas last year in favor of Jordan Brand. Although he took a 75% pay cut to wear the Jumpman, this according to agent Happy Walters, the move has been a matter of personal preference.

New Balance 574 "Paisley" Pack*~

New from New Balance for Summer 2015 are a couple of paisley-adorned takes on the brand’s timeless 574. Pairing suede overlays with a light grey canvas base, the kicks see paisley-covered lining and a matching tongue along with leather accents, grey laces and ENCAP-cushioned midsoles. Available in both blue and red, the “Paisley” 574s are now available for $80 USD per pair.

PUMA "Independence Day" Pack*~

PUMA has released a three-shoe pack in celebration of upcoming Independence Day. Consisting of two editions of the Basket silhouette and one Star silhouette, the shoes feature a premium leather upper spiced up with embossed stars, atop a white rubber sole with a festive marbled outsole. A Peacoat blue base with a white leather side stripe with red accents, and a High Risk Red base against a Peacoat side stripe comprise the two Basket colorways, while the Star design remains all white, opting instead for a subtle perforated side stripe, red inner lining and blue laces. The PUMA “Independence Day” Pack will be available at select retailers on June 5th.

Sneaker Freaker is back with its second collaboration with Saucony. Dubbed the “Kushwhacker,” Sneaker Freaker remakes the Grid SD inspired by purple haze, with a tonal purple upper constructed of premium suede. Complemented by black and gray accents, the shoe is finished off with 3M reflective details and an off-white sole. First Look: Nike KD 7 "What The" SE*~

Nike unveils the Nike KD 7 “What The.” Marking the latest addition to Nike’s tradition of signature “What The” silhouettes, this iteration is highlighted by a vibrantly-patterned upper, while translucent KD7 straps and glow-in-the-dark elements along the back heel accentuate the silhouette. An adjacent translucent outsole and visible heel unit provides both performance utility and a dash of neon glow. A multi-patterned carbon fiber body finishes the latest “What The” rendition as metallic accents adorn the KD logo. Look for the Nike KD 7 “What The” to be available at select Nike retailers on June 20th.

This Is What It's Like to Try to Buy a Hyped Sneaker in 2015*~

No matter how much you try to prepare by studying our weekend release guides, copping sneakers is more difficult than ever in 2015. Between resellers, bots, and fellow collectors, seemingly everyone wants a piece of the sneaker pie. But there's a big difference between getting lucky online and actually putting in the footwork and research required to lock down your pairs. One sneakerhead, YouTuber Tony Mui, recently uploaded a clip that perfectly explains what it's like to hustle for that coveted pair. He covers everything from raffles to first come, first serve scenarios and finishes off with that unmistakable bliss of finally getting the pair you've been pining for. Japanese brand WHIZ LIMITED has teamed up with sneaker boutique mita sneakers and with ASICS for Summer 2015 to collaborate on the GEL-Lyte V “Recognize.” The runner comes with a black/dark green upper, featuring a series of premium materials. Accents are set in red, yellow and with a blue/white print pattern. The result is a rather unique looking version of the sneaker, featuring WHIZ embroidery details on the toe box in yellow and matching laces. Look out for a release of the WHIZ x mita sneakers x ASICS GEL-Lyte V “Recognize” in the coming weeks from select retailers.

PacSun Pulls A$AP Rocky T-Shirts After Memorial Day Outrage?!?!*~

While the unexpected release of A$AP Rocky’s third album is sure to bring plenty of positive press and attention for the rapper, he is also being forced to endure a fair amount of negative publicity due to a T-shirt he has made available at PacSun. The controversy started at PacSun at Tanger Outlets in Foley, Alabama when a patron posted a picture of Rocky’s T-shirt which depicts an upside down American flag. Whether it was the image itself, or the fact that it was Memorial Day in the United States, many felt Rocky had desecrated the flag.

How Nikestore Pulled Off the Ultimate Troll on One Customer*~

Whoever runs the @Nikestore Twitter account has to suffer through plenty of online abuse. The account's Twitter mentions are often filled with angry customers every time one of its sneakers sells out at a seemingly impossible speed. But, the the person behind the account still manages to have some fun by intereacting with its more vocal followers. One of those followers, @Est1991__, aka Charles Henderson, 23 of Mobile, Ala., pestered Nikestore enough that he eventually got a free, totally unexpected package of product from the brand. But, it wasn't full of sneakers as he'd hoped. Instead, Nikestore sent him two packages of Oreos and a whole bunch of corks, as a reference to Henderson's frequent chiding about two pairs of sneakers. TWOTHIRDS x Vans Collection*~

Vans has partnered up with Barcelona's TWOTHIRDS for a new set of sneakers that come sporting sustainable materials. The shoes in the collection, the Vans Sk8-Hi, Vans Slip-On, and Vans Authentic, are decorated with water-based inks and feature recycled soles on bottom, along with hangtags that explain the partners' green approach here. The materials are reflective of TWOTHIRDS' general approach that splits product lines into two categories: the RECYCLED that features recycled and recyclable items, and the ORGANIC that uses biodegradable components and organic materials. The TWOTHIRDS x Vans collection will arrive at retailers starting on June 1st, and will retail from $75 USD to $100 USD.

Air Jordan 11 Retro "72-10" - December 2015*~

This year's Air Jordan 11 release will apparently be inspired by the Bulls' legendary 72-10 season. The exact details surrounding the sneaker haven't been confirmed, but there are plenty of rumors at the moment. Most descriptions of the shoe have it as sort of a "Space Jam" look with red branding–there are Photoshop renderings of a colorway like this floating around at the moment, but no actual images (the above is not an actual photo of this year's Jordan 11 December release). Early talk says that the mesh on the upper will be replaced with leather. The Air Jordan 11 Retro "72 10" release date is Dec. 19th, and the remastered sneaker will retail for $220.

The Pharrell x adidas Stan Smith "Floral Jacquard" pack will release on May 30. The collection is inspired by a trip that Pharrell took to Pairs, where the found some these floral fabrics at Marché Saint Pierre near Montmartre’s Sacre-Coeur. New Store Alert: adidas Brooklyn Store*~

adidas is expanding its reach in New York with a brand new retail store that's set to open in downtown Brooklyn. The new adidas store at 454 Fulton St. will open on Thursday, May 21st with a special performance by Smoke DZA. Although, some area high school kids will get to hit the shop early during a special event tomorrow that will have DJ Clark Kent and Troy Ave in the building.
