Miami-based Solefly continues to represent their city with another solid collaborative effort, this time in the form of this Asics Gel Lyte III “Night Haven” - a shoe that pays homage to Miami nights in a familiar color palette. They took that Miami Vice hue of teal and pink to task, but decide to be a bit reserved with the color choice, only showing those accents on the medial side so that you can focus on the luxurious materials used in this Gel Lyte III. A premium ostrich covers the toebox while suede and leather wrap around the ominous black base speckled with reflective detailing on the midsole, laces, and on accents of the logo. When sneakers tell great stories value is undeniably added far beyond any dollar amount. The central narrative surrounding the Nike Air Foamposite Pro has always dated back to Penny Hardaway and his accomplishments both on and off the court, yet two years ago when the “Gym Green” foams released there were rumors that the shoe was crafted in tribute to the Olympic Games. Although not confirmed at the time, that notion seems much easier to swallow today thanks to this unreleased USA 2012 sample. With “USA” stitched at the heel, this dark red pair highlights patriotic inspiration for the games that took place at the last Games.

It's been over 30 years since Sports Illustrated's expose on sneaker violence Your Sneakers or Your Life, but killing over kicks is stil something that happens today. Case in point, 19-year-old Willie Daquan Lee of Richmond, VA who was sentenced to 44 years in prison last week for murdering a Virginia Union University student over a pair of Air Jordans. The incident happened on Feb. 23 when Williie Lee shot Kahron M. Lee of Woodbridge, VA in the back as Kahron Lee was trying to run away. Willie Lee plead guilty in June to first-degree murder, robbery and two felony firearms counts. Over 40 years in jail is hefty price to pay for a pair of Jordans.
